Meet the Cast: Lewis Hancox as Nobby Steward

Meet Lewis Hancox: the hilarious filmmaker, actor, and writer who’s playing Nobby in my trans inclusive audio comedy Football Crumpets!

Follow me on kickstarter to hear when Lewis brings Nobby to life!

Lewis Hancox: Film Maker & Writer

You might know Lewis better as Prinny Queen, British Mum or even his teen alter-ego (or should I say alter-emo?) Lo. With heaps of silly voices at his disposal, you’re in for an audio treat as Lewis dives into Funcliffe Park with me.

"I really do believe we can all connect through comedy, no matter our backgrounds or identities. That’s why the hilarious, homely, trans-inclusive comedy Football Crumpets appeals to me so much - forget the fact that the creator and cast are trans, this is a story full of humor and heart that transcends our differences and I’m proud to be a part of it!"

- Lewis Hancox

Nobby Steward: Daft or Deep?

Lewis will be bringing his comedic talent to the table through Nobby Steward, a 30-something bloke who seems, well, a bit of an idiot. At least according to Mitsy and Dickie, the Boxridge educated sloane rangers trying to buy his caravan for a quid. But don’t let Nobby’s scruffy footie shirt and love of The Blues deceive you- he’s astute, wise beyond his years, and also, a bloody lovely bloke.

NOBBY

Aye well it’s a lovely little caravan park this, a bit rough round the edges, but we’re like a little family us caravaners. Have you seen that sea view? I used to love running around on the cliff as a kid, but it just got too dangerous, we had some bad storms here in my time. Anyway, you’re not here for my life story are ya? [pause] Teas! I’ll put the kettle on, milk and sugar?

MITSY

Oh nothing for me thank you Robbie.

NOBBY

Nobby. Ok, so one black tea for Madam, and you Dickie? Milk and three sugars? Proper bloke’s brew?

DICKIE

I’m more of an Arabica man myself, mate

NOBBY

Abba what? Is that one of them new milks? I’ll just do a pot and let you sort your own. Mitsy, you’re allowed to sit down you know, don’t mind Nanna’s death chair. I can imagine her sitting in it now, bottle of beer in one hand, feet in her little foot spa. That was before she [pause] moved on.

Trans Advocate Extraordinaire

As with all good comedy, there’s depth to the laughter. Lewis uses his platform to shed light on the experiences and challenges faced by transgender people. In 2011, Lewis appeared alongside Fox Fisher on reality TV show "My Transsexual Summer,”.

Feeling frustrated that their experiences weren’t portrayed authentically, they started to create their own films about the trans people around them.

They co-founded My Genderation, which has gone on to produce hundreds of films, and is pivotal in bringing the conversation about transgender issues to a wider audience, in an entertaining and sincere way.

My Genderation now has a whole team of talented creatives at its helm, including Ugla Stefanía, who’s also starring in Football Crumpets as Mitsy Pymm!

Beyond the Comedy

Football Crumpets is more than a comedy project. I’ve poured months into crafting a touching story that directly confronts the so called ‘trans debate’. With hate crimes increasing in the UK, trans healthcare on the brink of being restricted, and disturbing rhetoric being peddled in the press, it’s essential that together, we bring this project to life.

I’ve got to say, I’m learning from the best, and I’m hugely inspired by the team I’ve assembled for this project.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to hear from some of the most significant figures in contemporary LGBTQ+ advocacy. Catch Ugla before they become President of Iceland, and catch Lewis before he winds up as the UK’s king of comedy.

But it’ll only be possible if I meet my funding goal. Help Lewis, Ugla, myself, and a whole host of talented cast members make this happen on Kickstarter
